Professional Information

I joined the faculty for German at The University of Alabama in the Department of Modern Languages and Classics in August of 2002 after having spent several years at Baylor University in Texas.

My Ph.D. in German with a minor in Germanic Philology is from the Department of German, Scandinavian and Dutch at the University of Minnesota .

I received my Staatsexamen (equivalent of a master's degree ) in Germanistik and Lutheran Theology from the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster in Germany in 1986.

My research interests include medieval German literature and Medieval studies in general. Digging in the Middle Ages and being a native speaker of German and Latvian, I am also interested in the relationship between language and culture and the link between language and culture acquisition. My interest in nationalism and minority issues is again tied to the defining of the self and the other within a culture. If you wish to know more -just ask me.
